Old Hollywood comes to class
The past month of this year's summer semester literally took the students of the 7ab and their teacher Prof. Anita Eberhard back in time.
It all began with the introduction to the new unit in our English book, which focuses on celebrities, film productions, paparazzi and Bollywood films. Having worked on these topics, we agreed that Hollywood films must not be left out and so we decided to do a movie analysis of the 1961 classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
In this Hollywood romance Audrey Hepburn plays 19-year-old Holly Golightly, who comes to Manhattan to be free from her old life, trying to make a way for herself. She desperately wants to live independently but forgets her own happiness until she meets a friend who shows her that being herself is enough to be loved.
Inspired by the movie, we created 1960s-themed mood boards, which are compilations of small, printed images and quotes to convey a general idea or feeling about a topic. On April 23rd, the finished mood boards were finally presented to the entire group. Thanks to Domenik Hochegger, 7a, the presentations felt more like conversations, because he had brought croissants for all of us, so that we could have breakfast as in the movie. We all enjoyed the cozy atmosphere of this morning. Moreover, everybody wore an outfit inspired by the 1960s. The girls had put on miniskirts and headbands; the boys wore leather jackets or had borrowed their fathers’ and grandfathers’ suits. Finally, a class photo from 1965 was faked for fun.
Designing the mood boards and choosing suitable clothes certainly challenged our creativity, and the project will surely leave a wonderful, fun and lasting memory for all of us.
