School Trip to Ireland – A Week of Unforgettable Experiences
From the 14th to 21st of September 2024, classes 7ab embarked on an exciting one-week trip to Ireland, with Dublin as the main destination. The trip allowed us to immerse ourselves in the country’s rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes, while also giving students the chance to improve their English skills.
The adventure began with a day trip to Kilkenny Castle, where we explored the castle’s impressive rooms and gardens, learning about its significant role in Irish history. Accompanied by our teachers, Christoph Brandstätter, Anita Eberhard and Rosemarie Pollanz, we set off on a walking tour of Dublin the following day. Our two enthusiastic guides shared fascinating stories about the city’s famous landmarks, such as Dublin Castle, as well as hidden gems, giving us a great introduction to Ireland’s capital.
We also got the chance to visit the interactive museum Dublinia, where students had the chance to dive into the Viking and medieval history of Dublin through engaging exhibits. It was a hands-on experience that helped bring history to life and was a favorite among many students.
A visit to Trinity College allowed us to delve deeper into Ireland’s academic and literary heritage. We toured the historic library and marveled at the world-renowned Book of Kells, an ancient manuscript that dates back to the 9th century.
One of the unique aspects of this trip was the opportunity to take part in English language classes at the Babel Academy of English. Each morning, students attended lessons aimed at improving their conversational skills, which were not only educational but also fun. The classes were interactive, and we were able to practice speaking English in real-life situations throughout the trip.
In the evenings, we spent time with our host families, giving us a deeper insight into Irish daily life. Living with local families was an eye-opening experience, as we had the chance to practice our English, enjoy home-cooked meals, and experience Irish hospitality firsthand. It was a great way to feel more connected to the local culture.
One of the highlights of the trip was an evening pub sing-along, where we experienced Ireland’s famed musical culture firsthand. Students joined in with traditional Irish songs, creating a lively and unforgettable atmosphere that everyone enjoyed.
For nature lovers, the cliff walk in Howth was a standout experience. With breathtaking views of the Irish coastline, the hike provided a chance to enjoy the fresh air and stunning scenery, a refreshing break from the bustling city.
Finally, we paid a visit to the majestic St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Ireland’s largest church. Students learned about its architectural significance and the history behind this iconic religious site.
The week was not just about learning; it also included plenty of fun and relaxation. During our free time, we explored Dublin’s shops, cafes, and parks, and tried traditional Irish food. There was something for everyone, from history enthusiasts to nature lovers, and foodies to music fans.
This incredible week gave us the opportunity to bond, explore, and gain a deeper appreciation for Ireland’s unique culture and history. It was truly an unforgettable experience that we will all look back on fondly!
